CHAPTER 3: THE SHIELD.

Emerald looked through the bars of her cell. She saw the other prisoners being tortured by two of the centaur guards. They were poking the ponies with their spears.

"Please stop..." one the prisoners mumbled.

"You have to say 'Please Master' you little fag!" the centaur shouted at the prisoners.

He kicked the prisoner who hit the wall.

"UGH" the prisoner muttered.

Emerald could not accept that. She was just a filly and she could not face them, but she could divert their attention of the prisoners.

"Hey egg-face!" Emerald shouted at the centaurs and they turned to her direction "How did your mother stand your ugly 'plot-face', huh?".

"Emerald!" her mother, Sunny, warned, but the centaurs were already coming to their cell.

They opened the cell door and stared to Emerald with a sadistic smile.

"We have a brave filly here" the centaur said "But let's see how much of a brave filly she is!".

He tried to stab her with his spear, but she evaded with a squeak. Sunny got her on her hooves and hid her behind herself. She looked at the monster with angry eyes.

"Ah... Another brave pony..." he lifted his spear again "Let's see how much you filthy bitch!".

But when he was about to attack a female voice stopped him from doing it.

"Stop this non-sense torturing Sargent!" a female centaur appeared.

She had purple fur and blue mane. Her eyes were light-blue. She wore a piece of brown silk around her breasts.

"Y-Yes L-Lieutenant!" the Sargent stammered.

She approached him and pushed him away from the two fillies and looked at them.

"What's your name brave filly?" she asked.

Emerald stood behind her mother and looked at the centaur.

"Emerald Jewel..." she informed and the centaur smiled.

She turned around and waved to Emerald.

"You and your mother" she called "Follow me...".

Emerald hesitated, but she did what the centaur asked. Her mother walked alongside her.

They followed her to the sheriff's office. They could hear ponies crying centaurs laughing.

Emerald's heart was beating fast. As she entered the room her throat was dry and her body was shaking in fear.

The female centaur closed the door and faced them with an awful smile.

"Do you understand your situation?" she asked them and they nod their heads in agreement

"Then why you KEEP FIGHTING?" she screamed.

The two ponies backed off afraid of her reaction and the centaur advanced in rage.

"YOU PONIES ARE STUBBORN AS HELL!" she kept shouting "WHY WON'T YOU GIVE UP? WE ARE STRONGER AND FASTER!".

Emerald backed off and her mother got in front of her trying to protect her.

"Because you are threatening our families, our homes!" Sunny said bravely "Why we would not? OF COURSE WE ARE GOING TO FIGHT!".

The centaur smiled at her. She took the "short" sword and tested the blade with her finger. She looked again to the two fillies and smiled.

She started to walk towards them. But when she was close enough to attack them with the sword a loud noise was heard.

Something had hit the roof of the house. And then others came after the first one.

The centaur and the two fillies looked through the window and they saw many ponies throwing rocks at the building.

"COME OUT TO PLAY COWARDS!" they were screaming.

Chief Buck, Emerald's father, was leading them. He and some other ponies were wearing full armor and holding spears.

The centaur grabbed another short sword and smiled.

"This just got interesting..." the centaur said, she walked out of the room "Second garrison, with me, first garrison, guard the place!".

The other centaurs followed her outside and faced the ponies with blood thirsty smiles.

"NOW!" Buck shouted and the ponies retreated.

The centaurs looked confused, but they smiled again. Their leader, the purple female, raised her swords and pointed them towards the fleeing ponies.

"Get them!" she shouted "KILL THEM ALL!".

The centaurs ran after the ponies laughing and weaving their guns.

Not far from there Dark Knight and Iron Glaze were destructuring the dam. If Knight's plan worked the centaurs would show no resistance.

"Push!" Knight said while pushing a tree trunk which hold the whole structure "Just a little more...".

Iron looked down the river and saw the ponies coming.

"There they are!" he told Knight.

The black colt pushed harder and a sound of something shattering heard. Iron laughed.

"It's breaking!" he said "Just in time!".

Knight turned and gave a final kick in the tree trunk which started to slide. He got out of the water range. When he did it Iron putted his hoof over his shoulder.

"Here we go!" he said.

"Let's cross our hooves my friend!" Knight said.

They observed the ponies getting out of the way and hiding inside some houses. The centaurs stopped to look for them. And they were exactly on the position.

The dam collapsed and the flowing water roared towards the monsters.

They only knew what it was happening when the massive wave was upon them. It dragged the centaurs down river.

Ponies cheered and shouted at the desperate centaurs who were being dragged away, but one voice was heard above the others.

"TIME TO TAKE THIS TOWN BACK!" Knight shouted while rising his borrowed spear "There are only nine of them! Follow me! TO VICTORY!".

Ponies cheered and followed the black colt to the centaur base where the remaining monsters were waiting for them.

When they arrived the centaurs were prepared and a battle started. It was tough to face them even with numerical advantage, but they managed to defeat the monsters. Ponies sang and cheered, unicorns used their magic to celebrate with beautiful "fireworks" and the pegasi cleared the dark sky making the sunlight flood the whole town.

Buck and his soldiers released the prisoners as Knight went to look for other survivors in the other rooms.

When he opened the sheriff's office he found a mare and a filly sitting there. They looked calm and relaxed by the cheers outside. Knight entered the room and smiled.

"It's over..." he said.

Emerald looked at him and smiled and her deep blue eyes encountered Knight's mysterious red eyes. And they stood looking to each other without saying a word.

"Sunny! Emerald!" Buck cried when he saw the. He entered the room and hugged the two fillies. Even with her father at her side the little Emerald did not lose eye contact with Knight.

Buck asked a lot of questions to Emerald before turning to Sunny and asking her a lot of questions. The little filly turned towards Knight and walked to the black colt.

"Hi..." she said with a shy smile.

"Hey..." Knight replied while blushing.

"I'm Emerald..." she told him maintaining the eye contact.

"Knight..." he said "You're pretty..." he let slip and felt like a complete idiot "I-I MEAN... huh... Err...".

She smiled and Knight's eyes glowed with emotion. His heart beat so fast that he thought he was going to faint.

Buck turned to the two little foals and smiled. Knight was giving a great smile to Emerald and she was laughing at his funny face. But when he was about to say something they heard
a scream outside. Knight's face harden again and he ran outside followed by Emerald, Buck and Sunny.

Outside the female centaur was holding a war hammer. Her expression was one of fury and bloodlust.

"It doesn't matter..." she mumbled "My battalion was killed by mere ponies... I can't return to Lord Ankol... I would be executed... But at least... I CAN TAKE ALL OF YOU WITH ME!".
She advanced, but Knight hurled his spear and it pierced her arm and she stopped with a scream.

"SON OF A..." she stopped when she saw Knight advancing towards her.

Iron handed him a red sword and smiled. Knight took it and tested the balance of the weapon weaving it. And he liked it.

"Thanks buddy!" he thanked.

"Get her dude!" Iron said to him.

The centaur looked at Knight and gave him a blood thirsty smile.

"You..." she said "You're...".

"Yep" Knight said looking at her with his deep red eyes "It's me...".

She laughed loud.

"You're head..." she said "It will give me a huge promotion... And everything will be forgiven!".

She raised her hammer and Knight evaded her attack. He ran towards her and slashed the sword against her front left hoof. She screamed, but didn't gave up.

She shook her hammer at him and he almost got himself crushed.

"Crackers!" he cursed.

"You'll die!" she shouted at him.

She hit him with one of her hands and made him fly some meters away from her. She smiled and ran towards him with her hammer raised.

"DIE!!" she shouted.

Knight looked up and saw the hammer coming to his direction. He closed his eyes and waited for it, but he felt some pony pushing him.

He heard a terrible sound and a painful scream. When he hit the floor he immediately stood up and opened his eyes. What he saw made his heart tighten.

"NO!" the white pegasus called Diamond screamed ran towards Iron who was lying on the floor and a little red poll was under him.

Knight ran towards them and stood right next to the dying pony.

"Damn it Iron!" Knight said to him with an angry voice.

The young stallion looked at him and smiled.

"That wasn't for you..." he tried to say "These ponies need you... Ponies need something to believe in... They need a... Hero... They need some pony like you... Dark Knight...".

"I'm no hero..." Knight told him "I'm just a normal earth pony...".

"You're everything, but that..." Iron told him "My prince..." he whispered for only Knight to hear.

He looked at the white mare. He raised his hoof and she got it between hers.

"Diamond..." he said.

"I'm here my love..." she cried and that made Knight look at them surprised.

"You're my jewel..." he said "But... *cough* I...".

Knight opened his eyes wide and Iron smiled. The young stallion's eyes shut and his hoof fell hoof Diamond's hooves.

"No... NO!" she screamed and lay over his corpse.

Rain started to fall and Knight stood up. He turned towards the centaur with a creepy look on his face. And she was laughing.

"Pathetic..." the centaur shouted "Ponies are 'soooo' pathetic!".

Knight's mouth opened letting the centaur see his teeth. He grabbed the red sword that was on the floor.

"You..." Knight said with a creepy voice "You and all of your kind... You'll not kill any pony any longer... I swear...".

The centaur's smile vanished and she raised her hammer.

"Catch me then..." she said and ran towards him.

He evaded her attack and caught the sword with his mouth. He sliced her hoof and she screamed. Knight slid between her legs and stabbed her belly with his sword.

She felt the sword entering her belly and slicing off her guts and everything became dark and she died.

Knight looked around and saw the ponies cheering and clapping. When Knight walked towards Iron's corpse the cheers ceased. All of them moaned the young stallion's death.

Knight saw the pegasus cleaning the sky from the other night storm. The sun was finally appearing again.

Birds were singing and little animals started to leave their homes. Although that beautiful view that the little town was taking he knew that it was not over. And that
Auroram was no longer a safe place for ponies.

Knight walked towards Buck and he started to persuade him to leave the town.

"But where can we go?" Buck asked.

Knight pondered the possibilities. Northwest there was Lacrimis, a beautiful land, but strange to him. Northeast there were the Firelands, but that wasn't a good options.
Finally he concluded.

"North..." he said "Equestria, they would never say no to your group... Equestria is the best option!".

Buck pondered about Knight's decision. He looked to his friends and sighed.

"Fine..." he concluded "Equestria it is... But I need a favor from you Knight.".

"At your disposal Chief." Knight said with no hesitation.

Buck looked towards Sunny and Emerald and sighed again.

"Take Emerald to Canterlot." He said "If I'm right these centaurs will come for us again and I want her to be safe... Sunny and I need to stay with the others, I'm the leader here and they need me...".

Knight stood looking at him.

"Please Knight" Buck asked again "I told her that she'll study in Canterlot's school and she agreed. It's the best for her... Please...".

Knight sighed and smiled at him.

"Sure." He said "I can take her to Canterlot...".

Buck smiled and putted his hoof over his shoulder.

"Thank you Knight..." he said "Can you promise me that you can protect her?".

"I'll protect her with my life." Knight said "I promise you...".

Buck looked at Knight and smiled, the black colt didn't understand that action.

"I believe in you..." Buck said pointing his hoof towards him.

Knight looked back and saw it. His cutie-mark was there, a shield with red carvings, a
silver ring and in it there's a silver heart in its middle.

"Wha... But..." Knight started.

"Protect is your talent" Buck said "It's a rare one my friend, do not waste it.".

Knight looked at Buck and opened a smile. A true smile...
